So I wanted to do something similar. =) Oh well, I'll just put it down for now I guess. =P
Name: Chicken of the Seas (Tuna) Idea for entry: An I Spy Wintersday book. Or some other parody of a classic Christmas story. Genre of art: Scrapbook/Real life crafts
I knew there were books (i have a few myself :3) but i just ment the concept isnt copyrightable. Plus, you could always just call it a search and find or something :P

am excited to see it in fruition ^^
Alright thanks, that's what I was hoping as well. =P
Location: Rhode Island where there are no GW contests
Guild: Order of First
Profession: W/R
I Spy is an old children's game and also an old American TV series. Only the exact I Spy logo is trademarked to the people who started the book series, not the phrase.
I regards to mine.... well, I do have to admit I'm a bit biased towards Grenth because I want him to win so we can have more winter... I hope every year that Puxatony Phil goes running back into his cave screaming his little lungs out at the sight of his shadow, to.
Feh! I hate winter.
My birthday is also February 2nd so my family's always like "so did you see your shadow?" Screw you guys I am not a small woodland animal XD
Looks good so far, Gemini; her lower lip looks a little off (too large, mostly); also, I'm not sure if it's just the pose, but her legs look a bit small/short.
Back from a long and busy weekend! I shall try to be active today and draw draw DRAW.
@Al'zarigus: Very nice WIP of Kuunie! I love the idea of her as a red-nosed reindeer pulling a sleigh. It's a bit hard giving more constructive comments on a drawing that's a bit blurry though. Perhaps try resting the camera against a table for stability, and shining a lamp or something against the drawing itself so it'll show better? Can't wait to see more!
@GeminiJuSa: Glad to see you're entering too. I like your WIP sketch, the background looks lovely and the composition is well done. Her legs could be a tad bit longer - right now, they look a little small compared to her upper body. Otherwise I really can't find anything to comment on, it's looking so nice.
@Death By An Arrow: Awww, the bears are so cute. :3 I do agree that there's a lot of empty space behind them, and the previous suggestion of adding a Christmas tree or something behind there sounds good. You can also just crop the image so that there's less background visible - it would shift the focus exclusively on the cute bears.
alright, here was my solution to the offbalancing issue; dA Link
I figured id throw in the snowman that was suppost to summon when the polar bear "used" the snowman summoner. I also added in some more rocks to the left side to work in some radial balance (i don't think I've ever used that term... not even when we learned it in art class o.O)
Cropping/growing the image could work as well, and might actually be a more viable solution. I just know it needs to stay this size ratio because it matches my bristol board exactly and makes transferring easy. :P
@GeminiJuSa: I love the concept, everything looks good, though I have to agree with Verene that her torso looks a bit out of proportion. I think I'd take advantage of it and make her torso a bit smaller, I think that would balance out the picture a bit better as well.
@Death By An Arrow: Good lord that's so precious! I can't wait to see the finished product!
@Verene: I love winter - though I live in Phoenix. :P
Okay guys here's my WiP, I updated the ribbons a bit and redid where they characters are. Hopefully they balance out the picture, they play off the whole background theme of winter being a competition between Grenth, Dwayna, and their respective followers, and also add in a few fun elements for all the memories.
I still have a bunch of little details I want to add, but I think this is pretty much my finished layout, unless anyone has some convincing nitpicks.
That looks a lot better! Stil not a fan of the characters though, they just don't seem to fit in imo, don't know why, perhabs they are a bit too pointy and square
And Gimini, looks great, I see I'm not the only one that has improved :3 But like Pery said, perhabs make her legs a bit longer.
I like a style where the legs aren't anime long, because in real life, very few women have that long legs. I didn't think the legs were short at all actually, but the feet might be a bit small now when I think about it, it's just that my necro has small feet on the avatar too... Maybe her legs look shorter because she's got thighs? Her left leg (the right for us) is at a bit of an awkward angle though...
@Verene: I am gonna change the mouth for many reasons. Originally she wasn't smiling and I decided to change that to a calm slight smile at her little Bone fiends, just to make the feeling more cosy.
@Tommy: Thank you ^^ Though I haven't developed anything digitally... Now I'm drawing by hand (I've actually lost a lot of skill on that :/ ) so it's a bit more forgiving but my scanner hates me for some reason
@GeminiJuSa: Yeah, I dislike the super-long, super-thin anime legs too. I still think the legs look a little too small. They don't necessarily need to be longer much, just.... well, compare the width of her shoulders to the width of her hips. Her hips are tiny in comparison, so it makes the top part of her tower over the lower parts. It's not bad to have wide shoulders on a woman, but it can easily make her look unbalanced in the drawing. So if you want to keep shorter legs, then you may want to balance it out by making her hips wider as well, so that her lower body is able to support the top.
Also, not sure how much realism you're going for in height/proportions, but her head is a little too large for more realistic proportions. It looks great for more cartoonish proportions though.
The bone fiends are very, very cute! I like. <3
@Operative14: Looking good! The dark elf and grench on one side bothers me a little though, because they're a really dark spot in an otherwise white area, and really draw attention to themselves. The snowman on the other side is not dark enough to steal the attention from them for long, so you may want to tweak the colours a bit there.
@Death By An Arrow: That looks a lot more balanced! Can't really find anything to comment on at this point.
Question: They mention in rules only 1 entry per person, but does this mean 1 entry per household? So if you have brothers/sisters/friends who live in your house and have their own guildwars account, they simply cannot enter the contest because someone is that house is already?

also, why no rhode island?
I would imagine it's 1 entry per 1 person. For example, your sister shouldn't be disqualified just because you want to enter.
As for Rhode Island, here's the long version:
n the United States, every state establishes their own set of rules for contests. Most states have the same basic rules, so most national contests are valid. Rhode Island is unique because the state law actually requires the company to file a legal statement before it can run a contest in that state. The statute, Section 11-50-1 of Rhode Island General Laws, reads:
"Any person, firm, or corporation proposing to engage in any game, contest, or other promotion or advertising scheme or plan in which a retail establishment offers the opportunity to receive gifts, prizes, or gratuities, as determined by chance, in order to promote its retail business, where the total announced value of the prizes offered to the general public is in excess of five hundred dollars ($500), must file a statement with the secretary of state."
The statute then details exactly what information must be included in the filed statement. In addition, the law requires the company pay a $150 filing fee. If a company runs a contest in Rhode Island, and fails to file a statement correctly, the company is actually guilty of a criminal misdemeanor!
For companies that want to run national contests, the filing fee alone means it's not really worthwhile to run the contest in Rhode Island, which has a fairly small population. When you add to that the hassle of researching Rhode Island law in order to file the statement correctly, very few national companies are going to bother. The term "retail establishment" is fairly vague, so it's not really clear if the law would apply to a non-retail Web site. It probably does, however, and for most sites, it's not worth the time to try to contact the state of Rhode Island secretary of state to find out.
TL;DR:
Rhode Island would have to file a legal statement to run a contest in that state.
1 entry per person is just that. Per person, not per household. Rules usually have to be very word-specific, so they would use the word "household" if it was meant to be like that.
I don't think they'd be so mean as to restrict siblings' possibilities of entering. :P
Dunno about Rhode Island. There always seems to be some places that are outside of the normal contest laws.
Question: They mention in rules only 1 entry per person, but does this mean 1 entry per household?
also, why no rhode island?
I would imagine everyone in your house could enter, as long as theyre all entered in different names. Might wanna check with Regina just incase they imply it but didnt actually state it... or maybe its in the fine print?
@ Operative That looks much better ^^ It's much easier on the eyes now
My only critiques now (which are really just from personal preferences, so you don't actually have to do anything about it) are the ribbon-things look too symmetrical and why isnt anyone fighting D: LOL
The ribbon things is just because i firmly dislike identical symmetry, i dont really have a reason for it xD
And for the characters on the bottom; would you be able to make them have a snowball fight or something? That seems like it would be ALOT of work, but it could be something to consider. Just need to take some ingame screenshots of people in tonics perhaps?
Either way those are just personal preference things, you might have different ideas for where you're going. It looks alot better now
@Gemini wow, i seemed to have skipped your WiP. i apologize D:
i really like the composition and concept, but agree when other people said she was a bit out of proportion in places. A few changes that shouldnt take too long to go through id think. And the bonefiends look awesome ^^
The only thing, thats kind of strange to be honest, id say is could you add in another tree behind her? Right now it seems kind of empty behind her; like the forest just dies. Or rather make the trees behind her larger.
/Phew hopefully thats more helpful than mean sounding D:
@Everyone who commented on mine Yay, i thought that might help a bit :3
I cant work on getting the colour sheets cut up or figured out until a little later today, so ill probably start with sketching it onto the bristol board. whether that needs another update or not beats me xD
The colour version DOES NOT show the colours I will be using, I just wanted to see how the colour scheme I had in my mind would work. Came to the conclusion that it will still need some work. Perhaps having a finished greyscale to work with would make it look better.
I will be doing the basic lighting and shadows in greyscale, then the magic effects and textures in the colour version. Also, thinking that it will need some more Wintersday elements, like presents and such... but not sure where I should place them or if they'd make it look too crowded.
